Adriaan started his music career as a military band musician before pursuing a degree in music. Originally, he focused on saxophone performance, but switched to jazz arrangement during his second year of university. As part of the jazz arrangement degree programme, orchestration courses needed to be taken. This lead to a life-long fascination with writing for orchestra. It was only after years of writing arrangements that he turned to writing original compositions and started entering various film scoring competitions at the end of 2018. This was when he discovered that his true interest was writing to picture.

Realising how the narrative arc of a great film could be enhanced by an equally great soundtrack was the drive behind wanting to focus on film scoring. He is proficient in writing for both symphonic orchestra and jazz big band and has also researched Chinese orchestration. In 2022 he was the winner of the AWFF film scoring competition. For this competition a score that was written for Chinese orchestra was submitted. In his scoring endeavours Adriaan has written in a wide variety of styles ranging from animated comedy to live action noir. Currently he is working with an independent filmmaker and game developer on various projects.
